The first step in aluminium production is the extraction of bauxite ore. Bauxite is a natural resource rich in aluminium oxide.
The extracted bauxite is processed by the Bayer process to obtain aluminium oxide (alumina). Precipitation, purification and calcination stages produce high-purity alumina.
The alumina is dissolved in cryolite in electrolysis cells and reduced by an electric current. In this process the aluminium separates from the oxide to give molten aluminium.
The molten aluminium is collected in casting ladles and cast into the required form. Purity and homogeneity are checked against high quality standards.
